Ever stop and take a look at the books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines on the second floor of the AACC? This would be the home of our library collection which stores a number of educational and leisure reading resources and media about Asian Americans and other members of the Asian diaspora.

Here's the best part, if you don't see something you want, TELL US! Our first and foremost priority is you, the student and we want what you want! Send your suggestions to aacc@illinois.edu.

Can I check out materials?

Of course! Materials may be checked out of the AACC’s library collection by UI students, staff, and faculty. To reserve, all you need is a valid I-Card.

So, what do you have?

So much to say but so little space to describe it all! For a full and searchable list of all the materials we have, you can visit our Library Thing.

Here's a breakdown of some of the things in our collection:

Fiction

There's more to Asian American fiction than The Joy Luck Club, and we work hard to ensure that we collect works from a breadth of experiences and backgrounds representative of the our Asian American community. Here's a sample of just a few publication types on our shelves:

  • Graphic novels
  • Novels and short stories
  • Plays
  • Non-Fiction

Donations from Alumni have allowed us to collect many of the books used in Asian American Studies courses and other areas of research. Feel free to peruse the collection to research for classes or delve deeper into other topics that might catch your eye. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Politics and activism
  • Sociology
  • History
  • Asian American art/artists and film.
  • Movies

Everyone knows that movies are perfect for a break from your studies or even as a way to spark discussion for an event with your RSO. The growing collection includes a range of independent films, documentaries, comedy shows, and even recordings from past UIUC RSO events like India Night or the Moon Festival!

  • Finishing the Game(Justin Lin's comedy about the search for a new Bruce Lee in hopes to finish the film Game of Death)
  • The Slanted Screen (Representations of Asian American males in film)
  • Music

Give a listen to music from some of your favorite and up-and-coming APIDA artists. We also have a growing collection of spoken word including the sounds of Beau Sia and Chicago's premiere Pan Asian spoken word group, I Was Born with Two Tongues.

Games

Looking to play a game of Apples to Apples, Carrom, Scattergories, Cranium, Mahjong, or Catchphrase? We got it! Stop by the front desk to reserve for your next event or relax in the lounge and play.
